1 / 5About URW Impact Font
The impact typeface was originally designed by the English designer Geoffrey Lee in 1965. Ultra-thick strokes, compressed letter spacing, a very high x-height and minimal counters make this font ideal for a strong headlines. Writing in 2004 Lee explained that the design goal was “to get as much ink on paper as possible in a given size with the maximum possible x-height”.
Impact still remains a typeface with a lasting influence in type design. It is for example used for the Logo of the London based railway station St. Pancras and the Logo of the Internet Movie Data Base (IMDb).
