Question 1

What is a color font?

Accepted Answer

A color font (OpenType-SVG or COLR/CPAL) embeds multiple colors, gradients, or even textures directly into the font file. Unlike traditional fonts that render in a single color, color fonts display their built-in palette automatically in supporting apps.

Question 2

Which apps support color fonts?

Accepted Answer

Color fonts are supported in Adobe Photoshop (CC 2017+), Illustrator (CC 2018+), InDesign, Affinity Designer/Publisher, Sketch, and modern browsers. In apps that don't support color, the font typically falls back to a single-color version.

Question 3

Are the fonts on FontBoxDL free for commercial use?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the specific font. Each font page lists its license clearly. Many fonts are free for personal use, while commercial use may require a license purchase. Always check the license details on the individual font page before using a font in client work, products, or branding.

Question 4

How do I install a font on Windows or Mac?

Accepted Answer

On Windows, right-click the downloaded .ttf or .otf file and select "Install". On Mac, double-click the file and click "Install Font" in Font Book. Each font detail page on FontBoxDL also includes a step-by-step installation guide for Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, and iOS.

Question 5

What file formats do you offer?

Accepted Answer

Most free fonts on FontBoxDL are available in TTF (TrueType) and OTF (OpenType) formats, which work in virtually all design and word-processing software. Premium fonts from our partners may also include WOFF and WOFF2 web font formats for use on websites.

Question 6

Why are some fonts free while others are priced?

Accepted Answer

Free fonts are typically released by designers under personal-use or open-source licenses. Premium fonts are commercial works by professional foundries, with broader usage rights and dedicated support. We host both so you can pick what fits your project and budget.
