You're designing a poster for an 80s-inspired synthwave band, and you need type that feels authentically retro without looking dated. Sqair, originally designed by Superfried in 2011 and completely remastered for 2025, takes its visual cues straight from the Sinclair Spectrum logo. The 2025 overhaul delivers six distinct styles: display, display stencil, retro, and retro stencil options, letting you flip between precise geometric forms and deliberately broken letterforms.

This typeface lands where retro authenticity is the entire point. Vintage tech blog headers and newsletter mastheads benefit from its sharp geometry. Indie game interface design and menu systems work beautifully with its angular character. Synthwave album covers and 80s-nostalgia merchandise labels get instant credibility. The latest release redraws all characters with cleaner lines and better spacing, making the typeface readable at headline scale and small editorial sizes alike. You keep that distinctive angular punch that made the original special, but now the letterforms sit with precision in any layout. The stencil options give you even more flexibility for layered effects or bold single-color applications.
