Ultra-wide caps with geometric modularity and a quirky, unconventional stroke structure define Miedinger, a 1964 display typeface designed by Max Miedinger and digitized by Canada Type. Originally titled "Horizontal" during the film type era, this face diverges dramatically from the refined Swiss modernism its designer became famous for, instead treating each letterform as a geometric puzzle to be solved with boldness and raw vernacular character.

The letterforms occupy a distinctive space between ultra-wide Gothic and geometric art deco, employing unconventional stroke solutions like thinned midlines that prevent clogging in multi-storey characters. Use it for retro concert posters, vintage boutique branding, art deco-inspired packaging, and display headlines in editorial layouts where visual impact and personality clearly outweigh restrained elegance. The typeface family spans four weights ranging from Thin to Medium, with the original Bold included, plus counter-less alternates for designers who want to experiment and push the geometric possibilities even further.

Miedinger speaks to anyone building nostalgic or experimental work that genuinely demands real character and embraces its panoramic width without apology. Find it on Creative Fabrica to bring something authentically unconventional into your growing type collection.
