Decutto by Michael Rafailyk is a neo-grotesque display face that blends architectural precision with sculptural personality. The typeface pairs the structured proportions of the Marionette formula with subtle blackletter DNA, all rendered as a low-contrast sans serif. What makes Decutto distinctive are its carved edges and sharp counters, which give letterforms the crisp, time-worn quality of stamped metal or old coinage. This combination of sharpness and sophistication works beautifully in contexts where you want real impact without resorting to excessive weight.

The design draws from William Dwiggins' M-formula to create textural tension between rounded outer strokes and squared inner spaces, making the typeface read cleanly at smaller sizes while gaining considerable personality when enlarged for display. Touches of blackletter influence appear as diagonal calligraphic strokes in capitals and modest triangular serifs in lowercase corners, with gentle thickening at ascenders and descenders. This deliberate mixing of styles creates something that feels both contemporary and historically rooted in type tradition.

Decutto shines in luxury packaging design, independent bookstore identity systems, boutique fashion branding, and hand-lettered editorial headlines. Supporting Latin, Greek, Cyrillic, Georgian, Arabic, and Hebrew across 480+ languages gives this typeface genuine international reach.
