Raw, geometric, and unapologetically bold. Carga, created by Superfried in 2015 and remastered for 2025, is a display typeface that demands attention. Inspiration comes straight from cargo ship lettering, those massive, all-caps stencils that mark industrial vessels around the world. That brutalist visual language runs through every character.

This typeface comes in two versions: the standard display form and a cut variant where the diagonal bars get shortened. It's not just a stylistic flourish. The shift key lets you toggle between two character styles on the fly, so a single word can have different personalities depending on which letterforms you choose. You get maximum flexibility without needing to juggle multiple font files. Record label covers, bold web headers for fashion brands, high-impact event posters, and architectural signage all work beautifully with this typeface. Its pure uppercase construction forces clarity and stops you from overthinking composition.

Best results come from pairing Carga with a clean, minimal sans-serif for any supporting text. Use something like a condensed grotesque, and the contrast between its jagged geometry and your body copy becomes a design feature.
