There's something wonderfully retro and just a bit otherworldly about Pinback. Designed by FaceType, this display typeface draws its character from the science fiction cinema of the 1960s and 70s, capturing that distinctive blend of bold geometry and optimistic futurism that defined an era of bold experimentation. The name itself nods to a character from John Carpenter's cult classic Dark Star, which grounds it in genuine sci-fi heritage and adds a layer of artistic credibility.

This typeface really shines for projects steeped in nostalgic or alternative aesthetics. Think retro movie posters, vinyl record sleeves, indie game interfaces, and boutique sci-fi themed branding. It works equally well for vintage horror movie titles, underground comic book covers, and even experimental magazine headers where a dose of cosmic attitude feels right at home. The geometric forms give it a commanding presence that grabs attention without feeling forced or trendy.

Pair Pinback with a clean, minimal sans-serif like a neutral humanist font to balance its boldness and keep longer passages of text readable. The contrast between Pinback's distinctive personality and a restrained body typeface creates genuinely compelling layouts.
