There's something genuinely unsettling about a font that makes you pause and look twice. Mortal Coil, designed by Hanoded, was born from the artist's playful discovery of an old brush hidden under the kitchen stove. Mixed with Chinese ink, it created something raw and menacing, a typeface that feels hand-rendered rather than digital.

This display font works brilliantly for horror movie posters, dark fantasy book covers and art book dust jackets, haunted house event invitations, and gothic gaming interface design. The hand-drawn quality gives it an organic, intentional character rather than sloppy appearance, which matters deeply when your design needs type that unsettles but stays readable. Every letterform holds its own at larger sizes while maintaining its aggressive personality without sacrificing clarity or legibility. The font includes discretionary ligatures for double lowercase letter combinations, offering you the flexibility to layer in extra refinement and polish to your typography when you want that additional textural detail.

Pair Mortal Coil with a clean, minimal sans-serif for body text and captions, letting the contrast between rough and refined do all the visual heavy lifting. You can grab it on Creative Fabrica and start applying this darkly textured typeface to your most unsettling projects.
