Picture designing a concert poster or band album cover where the typography itself creates motion. Inky Ripples, designed by Gleb Guralnyk, is a display font built on texture through a ripple effect baked directly into the letterforms. The design contains 130 glyphs total, providing five alternate characters for each letter of the alphabet. These variations trigger automatically via OpenType Contextual Alternates, so lowercase letters shift into ripple variations on their own. Your text develops depth without needing manual character swaps.

This makes Inky Ripples ideal for editorial headlines, graphic novel lettering, and art book covers where visual weight matters. Concert posters and literary magazine covers benefit from the built-in surface texture that makes words feel tactile. Want to control the effect more precisely? Add spaces around words for maximum ripple action, or switch to capital letters when you need the base form to stay clean. The contextual system means you have real control over the look. Keep in mind that the ripple effect works only with the English alphabet; other character sets display in their standard form without the texture treatment.
