This typeface captures the gritty, nostalgic energy of mid-century urban design. Hotel, designed by Jim Parkinson in 2012, draws directly from square-gothic showcard lettering that once defined American storefronts and streetscapes. The style, known as gaspipe in vintage signage circles, springs from authentic examples still visible on buildings throughout Oakland, California, where the designer discovered his visual inspiration. Those weathered storefronts hold real character, and this typeface brings that tangible history into contemporary work.

Two distinct variations ship with the typeface: an inlined version and a solid black version, both conveying that bold geometric confidence of true vintage signage. Deploy it for retro speakeasy menus, vintage bowling alley promotional graphics, antique storefront window displays, craft brewery labels, vintage diner branding, theater marquee designs, nightclub graphics, and any signage demanding immediate attention from passersby. Sturdy geometric letterforms like these feel right at home in any project where mid-century authenticity and visual impact are the priorities.

Pair Hotel with a crisp geometric sans-serif like Futura or a clean contemporary typeface when body copy is needed, letting the vintage display font do the heavy lifting for headlines and focal points. Grab it on Creative Fabrica and bring that distinctive mid-century edge to your next project.
