HAVELOCK by XO is a layered display system built for experimental, composite typography. The typeface includes four interchangeable all-caps styles that stack and interact: Solid serves as the foundation, Multiline sits on top, Inline traces the centerline, and Stencil creates cutout effects. Mix and match them within a single word to build visual depth while keeping a coherent look across your work. This system combines hard geometric structure with softer, patterned elements, giving designers unusual flexibility for controlling visual hierarchy without switching typefaces.

The approach works particularly well in bold poster design, album artwork and music packaging, and high-impact editorial magazine layouts where you want type to carry real visual weight. Luxury product packaging and label design benefit from this technique especially, since layering adds substantial dimension and visual interest without bulking up the letterforms themselves. Geometry structured this way feels intentional and measured, which means overlays stay readable even when stacked three or four deep. Translucent color intensifies the whole effect dramatically, letting tones blend through the cutouts and creating subtle textural shifts that simply wouldn't be possible with a single typeface.
