Fresno by Parkinson Type Design is a geometric display face rooted in mid-20th century showcard lettering, with that distinctive square-gothic sensibility historically known as "gaspipe" in the type world. The family consists of two complementary weights: Fresno Black and Fresno Inline. These work exceptionally well as a layered pair for color separation effects, or you can deploy either weight independently for straightforward impact. The Inline cut provides a refined, outlined character, while the Black weight delivers solid, commanding presence. Both include alternate characters for A, M, and N, giving you room to vary letterforms when you need subtle shifts within a single word.

This typeface shines in vintage-inspired branding identities, diner and cafe menu design, record label artwork, and retro poster layouts that draw on mid-century commercial lettering traditions. The geometric precision combined with nostalgic warmth makes it equally at home in editorial work referencing that era of architectural signage. Fresno captures the specific Oakland warehouse aesthetic that inspired its creation without feeling like a strict period reproduction. Jim Parkinson originally developed the typeface in 2001, and it's been thoughtfully refreshed for modern applications while preserving its essential character.
