About Anton Font

Picture a gig poster taped to a brick wall, the band name stacked in three tight lines and readable from across the street. That is the job Anton does. Vernon Adams drew this condensed sans as a practical alternative to Impact, keeping the heavy vertical stress of old newspaper banner type while making the shapes cleaner and more even.

It comes in a single Regular weight, which sounds limiting until you use it: there is one answer, and the answer is loud. Anton has sat in the Google Fonts library long enough that most people have read it a hundred times without knowing its name. Good fits include concert flyer headlines, streaming thumbnail titles that have to survive a phone screen, magazine cover decks, and farmers market chalkboard signs where every letter needs to carry. Language coverage runs past 501 Latin-based languages, so a headline set that runs in several European languages stays consistent across the whole campaign.

One caution at text sizes: those narrow counters fill in fast, so Anton stays sharp from about 24 pixels up and struggles in body copy. At display sizes, trim the tracking a touch and let the lines sit close together, since the cap height does the work and extra air only weakens the punch.
