Doodles by Outside the Line is a picture font that transforms casual sketch marks into a usable typeface. The design earned honorable mention in U&lc's First Annual Type Design Competition, recognizing its originality in the picture category. What makes it genuinely distinctive is its origin: the letterforms grew from accumulated doodles and margin sketches from countless hours spent in corporate planning meetings. Rather than refining these raw marks into something polished and conventional, the designer preserved that spontaneous, slightly irreverent quality throughout.

This natural, sketch-based style works beautifully for scrapbooking layouts, greeting card suites, children's book illustrations, and custom stationery that needs real visual personality. Use it for journaling spreads, editorial ornaments, and packaging for handmade or vintage-inspired products where a human touch counts. Pair it with its companion typeface Doodles the Alphabet, and you gain flexibility to mix picture elements with text in ways that feel cohesive and intentional. The dingbat structure lets you layer shapes and marks over lettering for dimension, creating compositions that read as deliberately sketched rather than assembled from stock components.
