About Upswing JNL Font

An ad in the April 24, 1948 issue of Boxoffice Magazine for Kroehler Push Back Seats featured an unusual sans serif design for the theater chair’s name.

The hand lettering was done in a condensed ‘thick and thin’ slab serif style, but had an obvious jog upward on the right hand side of each character.  When the word copy was drawn on an angle, it further implied movement.

This is now available as the digital typeface Upswing JNL in both regular and oblique versions.
