About TeX Gyre Schola Font
Steady, patient, built to be read for hours. TeX Gyre Schola comes from Bogusław Jackowski and Janusz M. Nowacki at the GUST e-foundry, a serif in the Century Schoolbook tradition that is metric-compatible with the classic C059 set. That compatibility matters more than it sounds: swap it into an existing layout and the line breaks stay where you left them. The shapes are generous and open, with the sturdy, unhurried feel the schoolbook genre is known for. Nothing here shouts, which is the point in a long document; the type stays out of the way and the argument comes through.
The family ships as four files, so you have weights and styles to carry a full document rather than a single display line. Latin language coverage runs past 322 languages, enough for multilingual citation lists and foreign language glossaries without hunting for substitutes. Regular is the main file here, the one doing most of the work. It sits comfortably in LaTeX academic papers, printed textbook interiors, long form nonfiction book pages, and course workbook layouts where readers spend real time on the page.
Pick it when the job is a document someone has to read closely: a dissertation, a classroom reader, a reference manual set in continuous text. Open license, free for commercial use, direct download here.
