About TeX Gyre Bonum Font
You are laying out a 240-page poetry anthology in LaTeX and the body text has to hold a reader for an hour without wearing them down. TeX Gyre Bonum, drawn by Bogusław Jackowski and Janusz M. Nowacki at the GUST e-foundry, was built for that kind of long sit. It is a serif in the Bookman tradition and metric-compatible with URW Bookman, so you can swap it into an existing document and keep the line breaks and page count you already had. That compatibility is the quiet selling point: no reflow, no renumbering, no surprise widow on page 190.
The wide proportions are the other thing to know. Text set in Bonum takes more horizontal room than a Times-style serif, which suits self-published novel interiors, bilingual museum catalogues, and course handouts and lab manuals that people read under bad lighting. Four files come with the family, covering multiple weights and styles, enough to handle running text, emphasis, and subheads without pulling in a second typeface. Support spans 322+ Latin-based languages, so multilingual academic papers and translated essay collections stay in one family instead of three.
One practical note on sizing: the width that reads so comfortably at 10 or 11 point turns slack in large headlines, so tighten the tracking when you set it above roughly 36 point, and at text sizes leave tracking alone and add leading instead. Open license, commercial use allowed, download below.
