Picture yourself designing a vintage wine label or retro packaging suite where a typeface needs to carry character without looking too polished. Created by Bruno Jara and Luciano Vergara, Los Lana Niu evolved from their 2007 original and grew into something far more versatile: a display typeface that spans 24 styles and works beautifully for art deco book covers, craft brewery labeling, boutique coffee packaging, and art gallery posters.

The typeface holds onto the rustic, hand-drawn feel of its predecessor while deliberately shedding the curves that make typefaces feel refined. Instead, it has an angular, irregular quality that reads as thoughtfully imperfect, the kind of thing you'd see on vintage shop signage or handwritten advertisements from decades past. Bruno and Luciano built in a full set of ligatures across every weight from Thin through Black, plus contextual alternates and small caps that give you real flexibility in how you compose headlines or body text.

The full family consists of three subfamilies: Essential (392 glyphs), Small Caps (392 glyphs), and the complete version (820 glyphs with the full OpenType feature set). You can pick your weight from Thin to Black, and the small caps work particularly well when you're setting headlines or running text through a publishing project.
