These patterns mesmerize with their endless mathematical logic. FabFours by Ingrimayne Type explores a specific property of tessellation: when a square template rotates 180 degrees around its center point, only four distinct tile shapes can result. Arranged vertex to vertex rather than edge to edge, these tiles form a checkerboard effect where the negative space mirrors the positive shapes, creating a unified whole with no gaps or overlaps.

What makes the font genuinely useful is its structure: 22 tile families broken into two sets (A-P and a-p) allow you to compose everything from single-tile patterns to intricate four-tile tessellations. Each family contains 16 tile variations stemming from different orientation possibilities, and some families also branch into triangular and hexagonal template variants. The patterns align with eleven of the seventeen mathematical symmetry groups, making this both a design tool and a reference for understanding geometric relationships.

One technical note: set your leading to equal your point size for tiles to lock together correctly. Pair FabFours with a clean sans-serif to anchor any text over these patterns. On Creative Fabrica you'll find this font ready for textile design mock-ups, wallpaper collections, geometric illustration overlays, quilt pattern inspiration, and intricate background textures for book covers and packaging.
