This font crackles with the energy and personality you find in hand-lettered comic book work. Colleen Doran, designed by Comicraft, is a bold decorative typeface built from the original pen lettering of sci-fi/fantasy artist Colleen Doran, whose influential graphic novels and series have captivated readers for decades.

The creative challenge was both practical and artistic: transform authentic hand-rendered letterforms into a fully functional font while preserving every bit of the warmth and human character that made the original lettering distinctive. Comicraft pulled this off by keeping every quirk and imperfection intact, building a typeface that reads as genuinely drawn rather than algorithmically smoothed. You'll reach for it when designing comic book dialogue balloons and narrative caption boxes, full-color graphic novel covers and multi-page spreads, indie comic publishing projects where personality and budget constraints often define the aesthetic, and sci-fi or fantasy zine layouts that need immediate visual punch. The bold weight and generous proportions let text sing even when sized large.

Pair Colleen Doran with a clean, utilitarian sans-serif like Open Sans or Source Sans Pro for supporting body copy, keeping the decorative font positioned as the visual anchor of your design. Pick it up on Creative Fabrica whenever you're ready to add comic-book character to your work.
