Picture a campus wayfinding sheet where arrows, warning marks, and room icons have to sit beside the body copy without fighting it. Asap Symbol, from Omnibus Type, is the dingbat face built for that kind of work: a single Regular weight of icon glyphs meant to run with type rather than replace it. The drawing leans geometric, which keeps shapes legible as they shrink.

It earns its keep in transit and museum map legends, assembly instruction sheets, section dividers on restaurant menus, and icon strips printed across product packaging. The tag list reaches further than you would expect from a symbol font, taking in borders, decorative marks, and display shapes, so comic panel callouts and zine headers are fair game too. Latin-based language support runs past 217 languages, which counts for more than it sounds: a multilingual product manual or a three-language signage system can carry the same icon set through every edition without swapping files.

One practical note on sizing: at text sizes, give the symbols a touch of extra letterspacing and check their optical alignment against your x-height, since icons seldom sit on the baseline the way letters do. Scaled up for display, a single glyph holds its own as a section marker or a poster anchor. Asap Symbol is released under the Open Font License and hosted here for direct download.
