Imagine a theater lobby in the 1930s, walls lined with bold, graphic posters announcing the latest avant-garde production. That's the energy of McKnight Kauffer, a decorative sans created by K-Type and rooted in Edward McKnight Kauffer's original lettering from poster and book cover designs that defined the 1920s and 1930s. This typeface captures the playful, forward-thinking spirit of that golden age of graphic design, drawing visual inspiration from Louis Oppenheim's Fanfare type but with a lighter touch and without the Germanic blackletter sensibility.

The font excels wherever art deco aesthetics belong. Think vintage concert posters, retro book jacket designs, high-end speakeasy menus, or event invitations that need genuine period character. Packaging for luxury goods or boutique brands works beautifully too, especially when you want that nostalgic 1930s glamour without feeling forced. What makes this typeface especially useful is the inclusion of both regular and outline versions. Layering these two on top of each other creates striking two-color effects instantly, letting you achieve professional depth with a single deliberate choice.

The outline variant particularly shines at large display sizes, where the geometric precision of the design really stands out. Available on Creative Fabrica, McKnight Kauffer brings authentic art deco polish to any project that demands it.
