About Gillius ADF Font
Humanist bones, condensed frame: the strokes carry a written rhythm rather than a drafted one, and the whole alphabet sits narrow enough to pull a headline tight without squeezing. Gillius ADF is Hirwen Harendal's work for Arkandis Digital Foundry, built as a Gill Sans alternative for designers who want that calm British humanist voice in a family they can actually ship. You will also see it catalogued as Gillius No2, so both names point to the same design.
Sixteen files make up the family, enough weight and style range to build a full hierarchy from one source: the Regular handles running text, the heavier cuts hold their own at sign size. Coverage reaches more than 217 Latin-based languages, which earns it a place in multilingual museum exhibit labels and in annual report spreads that carry two or three translations per page. The narrow proportions also pay off in transit wayfinding panels and in tightly set editorial sidebars where every line has a hard character limit.
For body copy, set it against a quiet low-contrast old-style serif; the serif takes the long paragraphs while Gillius ADF carries headings, decks, and captions. Gillius ADF is free under the GNU General Public License for personal and commercial work, and the family files download directly from this page.
