“Baker’s Showcard Book” (1916) was an early 20th Century instructional book on sign lettering. 

One of the sample alphabets entitled “Decorative Roman” was a spurred serif, Art Nouveau design that has been recreated digitally as Elegant Showcard JNL in both regular and oblique versions.
